Art and Archaeology at the Skirball
Jack, Grandma, and Daddy went to the Skirball to visit Noah's Ark (the children's exhibit there), but Jack was so interested in digging for relics and making art in the crafts area that he never made it to the Noah's Ark (though he has been there many, many times before). He even wanted to try to reassemble the pot shards, but Daddy did not have enough patience for that (nor was he sure that the pot shards actually went together).
Bureau of Sanitation Open House
Someone has been looking forward to the Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation Open House for a veyr long time, ever since he saw a kid in the playground with a toy Los Angeles recycle bin. It did not disappoint, and Jack also had a reasonably good time. Jack received his own recycle bin, which he has been playing with extensively since, after placing an item in the correct bin. Jack's item was some fake grass. He placed it in the green bin; he later referred to it as a "plastic mat" and explained that he put it in the green bin because it was green. This was clearly incorrect reasoning (if he thought it was plastic and not meant to represent grass, it should have gone to the blue bin), but I guess this is one of those cases where it is getting the right answer that matters (and I suspect they might have been allowed multiple tries if necessary). Jack also pointed out that the guy took the grass out of the bin, which seemed a little strange. Father and son got to ride in the new little trash trucks that are used to collect trash in Venice and the Hollywood Hills, where, as Jack explained, the streets are small.
